But moving a band, like any team, from one country to another, is an enormous undertaking.
It’s not only about transporting the 30 or so men and women who play, it’s weighty uniforms, heavy musical instruments and cumbersome equipment. It’s accommodation once the band has landed. Coach travel to the competitions in which we’re performing. Entry fees. Spare parts. Catering.
But the cruel exchange rate is perhaps the greatest burden of all.
That’s why we’re appealing to you, to help us get our mission done.
There’s no such thing as a donation that is too small, because every Rand goes towards settling the bill for the many different aspects of the tour.
Our aim, as it has been for over century, is to do the best we can. To do our tradition proud.
To do South Africa proud.
Of course, we’ll bring our learnings and experiences back home to help those who might follow in our footsteps. And those who are building their own bands and raising the bar here at home.
So please help us on our journey to The World Pipe Band Championships. And when you see that flag flying high in Scotland, you’ll know you were one of the ones who helped carry it there.
