Developed by Murray Blair, accomplished Grade 1 Champion piper and audio engineer, the HBT1 is programmed specifically for the Highland Bagpipe Scale, features 2 dedicated tuning modes for the bagpipe scale (Highland Bagpipe & Drones), a metronome, tone generator and also a chromatic mode for standard tuning.

It features a large LCD screen which displays note, frequency , calibration frequency (range of 439-499Hz) and pitch position with a vertical meter and LED lights indicating note status. It has a built-in frequency designed microphone and is suplied with an additional external clip microphone and earphone. The clip mircophone will clip onto chanters just under low-a and reads all notes perfectly, as well as a clip for the drones.

Unlike other instruments such as Piano, the intervals between each note on the Highland Bagpipe continue to vary making the scale of 'Just Temperament'. Therefore, a standard digital chromatic tuner cannot accurately tune the Highland Bagpipe scale. The HBT1 has been programmed to detect these varying intervals and accurately read our scale.

The tuner has a range of 439Hz to 499Hz and can be calibrated to whichever frequency (Hz) a piper or band may choose.

The calibration function configures the HBT1 to a user defined pitch aligned to '0' on the vertical meter. When calibrated the tuning needle will indicate if the note is sharp, flat or correct in relation to the calibrated pitch via 3 LED lights. The calibrated pitch is also stored in memory so if the tuner is powered off, on start-up the pitch will be where last set until. With the Clip microphone the tuner will detect all notes accurately, like all tuners positioning is crucial and depending on individuals instrument, may take some adjustment for the right postion.

Ideal for pipers of any standard the HBT1 can also be used as practice tool to monitor pitch, tempo and blowing pressure. Batteries included, so you are ready to tune up straight out of the box! And by the way, it will fit in your sporran.
